Institute for Sound and Vision, Hilversum (Netherlands)

The architects invented a new kind of glazing with the collaboration of a multi-media artist, Jaap Drupsteen. An amazing exterior of color and movement for a building that is primarily used for storage of film and soundtracks from Dutch radio and television.

Building-Plundering and Other Sundries

I'm working on an article for my old employer (Preservation Mag) about copper theft from historic buildings (which, of course, totally screws up the buildings). Found these two cool sites in the searching process:

http://gowanuslounge.blogspot.com/ -- blog about development/preservation in the Brooklyn waterfront area
http://www.saveindustrialbrooklyn.org/ -- Brooklyn-based preservation group that focuses on sustainable reuse of industrial structures....the interactive map is cool!

I was tracing a cornice today in CAD from a blk and white line drawing. My eyes were hurting and then I realized there was quite a pretty thing in front of me.

sight!

This boring looking machine allows a person to actually take in visual information through the tongue! basically a person without site can wear a video camera on a headpiece, the video information goes into a computer- the out into a small postage stamp size thingy that you put on your tongue, this transmission goes into the tongue and is then reorganized as a visual picture in your brain! I emailed them last week to see if I could try it, maybe make some drawings or something. cool huh? their website www. wicab.us/ soo cool

Global Ho'town

My cute editor-friend Dar (who was at the readin') is launching a cool story-site with her business partner. Here's their spiel:

"SEND US A FEW WORDS ABOUT YOUR HOMETOWN

Coming Soon -- GLOBALHOMETOWN.com, featuring narrative accounts from around the world of people's hometown.

Think ..MySpace meets Norman Rockwell and Thornton Wilder.

Your descriptions of your hometown can be as short as a sentence or as long as 500 words. At the short end, descriptions can be almost haiku-like about a place and time.

...A favorite cafe somewhere, a wild car ride, a visit to town hall, drinking at the corner bar, driving by a farm, going to a funeral home, reading a morning newspaper... ranging from Beijing to Boston and a thousand places, small and large in-between.

Pictures or other art are also welcome."

Pretty snazz, eh? The site isn't fully up n' running yet, but they're in the process of collecting submissions. Written and visual work are both acceptable. Fun stuff!

This is a picture of a Magnetic Termite nest. I just found out about them. They face magnetic north exactly to get optimal heat from the sun on the south side. They also look like tombstones or menhirs , those megalithic stones often found in the UK.
Thank You is playing at H&H April 20th.
It's the CD release!!
Nancy Holt piece at Dark Star Park, Arlington, VA
August 1st 9:30am shadows line up but can go anytime before or after that.

idear

Okay here is my idea for a cool fun project, these horribly photoshopped images do nothing to convince you as to what a great idea this is. I did these is 20 mins just to get the idea out of my head. I am thinking of proposing it to some places to see if there can be some cash monies to pay for the flowers/maintenance. whatchall think? Any advice/help/etc. is always good!

Electronic Arts Intermix in NYC

Hey ladies,
I thought of another cool thing to do in NYC. Let me preface by saying that I don't want to plan toooo much but thought it's worth putting more options on the table.
I was online just now and came across Electronic Arts Intermix in NYC. you can rent and bye videos but they are expensive. I would love to screen a couple sometime here in b-more but the other option is viewing them in NYC. It's free and all you have to do is make an appointment 2-3 weeks before. It's about 2 weeks now before we go and I could call this week to see if it's a possiblity. I'm interested in seeing some Nancy Holt and Ant Farms inflatable architecture video. view artist and titles at:
